Sarabi Studio designed and hand crafted this unique free standing walnut vanity for a client. The furniture grade cabinet features solid walnut legs, drawers, doors with a top grade walnut plywood cabinet. The drawers feature soft close slides and the doors are mounted on 170 degree european hinges. Custom stainless steel drawer pulls and trim were also produced for this cabinet. The legs and fronts we all milled from two large 4X8” solid walnut timbers.

Sarabi Studio has just completed work on this 9’ custom antique mirror credenza for a private client. The project, designed in collaboration with Urban Space Interiors, required over 270 hand cut and antiqued pieces of mirror glass. Each mirror piece was precision fit to assure the end to end fit up was exact, much harder than it sounds if you have ever cut mirror!

The finished table is trimmed in aged 1/4” solid steel bar and is substantial to say the least. Sarabi Studio is now proud to offer custom antique mirror furniture to its clients as a new capability.

Sarabi Studio once again grew our capabilities by expanding our product line to include custom milled solid stainless steel drawer and cabinet hardware. Our client needed not only a particular hole spacing to match up to his existing cabinets but also wanted a level of precision and finish that he could not find even from high end brands so he tasked us to create these custom drawer pulls, 110 in total, for his home. Hand crafted from 1/2” X 1” X 4” solid stainless steel, these minimal pulls are striking in hand.

Custom Plate Steel and Walnut Tables

Sarabi Studio recently created these three custom plate steel and solid walnut side tables for a client. The three tables are made from 3/16” natural plate steel that is pressed into this unique seamless form - then out metal artisans polish the edges of the steel plate to a high luster before each steel plate is coated in two coats of high grade industrial lacquer. The steel shells each received two custom made solid walnut wood shelves that were fastened using stainless steel countersunk screws that preserved the seamless shell while providing structural stability. The base of each table then received four hand cut rubber feet, our laser etched product tag and our designers signature before being delivered to our client.

These photos document the process of hand crafting this stunning bespoke table for a client based in San Diego, CA. The table is constructed of brushed stainless steel plate for the table top that is fully welded to a 1/4” thick edge band that is 2” tall giving the table substantial feel underhand. The table frame is constructed from water jet 3/8” solid steel plate that was powder coated in a custom gunmetal color chosen by the client.

Custom Live Oak Dining Table - Solid Slab Dining Table

This custom dining table was hand crafted from a single center cut slab of Texas native Live Oak paired with a stainless steel table frame. The wood slab was first dimensioned on a 4 axis CNC router to get the top surface true and level then the entire table top was hand sanded and treated with many coats of epoxy resin to fill in the natural defects and knots in the wood to provide a flawless finished table. The final finish is a 4 coat hand applied satin polyurethane. This piece will be on display in our showroom through the end of the year, after which it will be delivered to the client.

The three tables and six matching benches have the following impressive stats:
1,500 lbs of Brazilian Redwood was custom milled for this project into 690 individual wood slats
900 lbs of steel angle was cut into 72 segments
1,332 holes were hand drilled through the metal frame to accept the screws that hold the wood slats in place
1,332 stainless steel screws and matching stainless steel washers will be used to fasten the wood slats to the table, each pre drilled and torqued by hand

This past week Sarabi Studio in partnership with Austin based architectural products firm minimis completed the fabrication and shipping of these exciting modular decking panels. Each 4’ X 4’ panel will be installed side by side to create a finished outdoor decking space. The backlit LED panels come to life at night when the randomly configured led luminaries create a star field of light.

Custom Planters for stunning austin home

We recently delivered these two custom planters to flank a newly completed fireplace as part of this outdoor living space. The client needed a custom sized steel planter to compliment the metallic sheen of the tile and light fixtures while fitting the space.

We worked with the client to both design the ideal size vessel and to design in a false bottom into the planter that would serve to hold container plants at the ideal level. Due to the lack of sunlight the owner intends to rotate the plants out to the large back yard to sun every so often so a design that accommodated this feature was needed.

Custom Cherry bench and console

Over the past weeks we have been working away at these two unique custom furniture pieces are interpretations of our linear design. The client in Rochester, NY needed a slender bench and console table to add a unique touch to a small entry hall. We came up with this adapted design in solid american cherry that was custom milled for us by Fine Lumber and Plywood here in Austin from rough timbers. These two pieces will, when finished, have over three dozen hours of precision milling, wood working and finishing work in them. Photos of the finished work to come soon!

After cutting each 45 degree angle with less than 1/10th of a degree tollerance each joint is slotted with a tool that allows us to insert a biscut joint. The joint is then filled with glue that causes the biscut to swell up and then pin nailed to hold the joint together while the glue sets up. The finished joint, after 24 hours of drying, is stronger than the wood itself!

Bellow you can see many of the leg segments with one joint completed awaiting the glue to set so we can move on the other joint. This painstaking atention to detail is what sets our custom wood and metal work apart from the rest.

The smaller of the two pieces, a 30" bench, shown just before the legs are set to our finishing shop. Each leg segment is treated with a chemical that raises the grain and seals the wood pores to provide a ideal surface for the stain and lacquer to bond. After this treatment sets over night each leg segment is hung up and sprayed with a custom blended stain to match the customers specifications and then allowed to set up over night. Once the stain is dry a light sanding prepares the wood for its 4 coats of lacquer finish that will seal and protect the wood for years to come.

I am excited to announce that the W Hotel and Block 21 project in down town Austin, TX has chosen several custom Sarabi Studio SOL Outdoor dining sets for project. These unique, hand crafted outdoor tables and benches will be located on the outdoor balcony space out side the new music venue. This venue will not only host the famous Austin City Limits studio tapings starting next year but also many great concerts and events put one by Live Nation and other promoters.

W hotel/Block 21 architectural rendering

Above pictures is Sarabi Studio's SOL outdoor dining set that is to be featured in the W hotel and Block 21 project. This unique table set is hand crafted from heavy steel angle that is fully welded and then powder coated. The bench and table tops are clad with a mixture of reclaimed and new Brazilian Redwood that provides a unique texture and contrast to the piece. Over time the wood will take on a beautiful silver patina. This material is imported by my friends at US Lumber Brokers here in Austin.

Sarabi Studio recently delivered this custom table frame to a client in the Rollingwood area. This unique table frame was hand crafted from 1/2" thick solid stainless steel rods and attached to this beautiful Pecan table top (table top by others) from a pecan tree removed from the land behind shady grove, a austin landmark.

Above Ground Garden Completed

This custom designed and fabricated above ground garden was completed this week for a client in Beaverton, Oregon a suburb of Portland. The large container garden and coordinating flower beds and planters helped to provide the owner additional planting areas and some contemporary flair. Although the fabrication is complete i will follow up in a few month once the planting has been done to show the finished product. These unique vibrant red benches (Bengal Red) were part of a 4 piece set scheduled to be delivered later this week to a customer that has paired them to a custom SIMPL table frame. The color was so unique i had to share it with everyone. The industrial powder coating process allows Sarabi Studio to offer its custom metal works in hundreds of unique colors and textures that are suitable for use indoors and out and highly durable. Each of our unique designs, from planters to dining sets, is fabricated from raw steel materials in our Austin workshop. Situated on 1.2 Acres of land just east of downtown on 5th street our workshop has easy access to several area providers of materials and value add services such as powder coating and polishing. The pictures below show a typical production day in the shop with many orders moving through the many hours of cutting, polishing and welding necessary to deliver our unique products.

A Dewalt Dry Cut metal saw. This saw allows quick cold cuts through steel using a titanium carbide tipped metal cutting saw blade. Near the saw are several frames that will soon form a LINEAR bench ready to head to the powder coating shop for its final sandblast and finish.

Tatami Planters Released

Toady marks the release of Sarabi Studios plate steel minimal planter line named Tatami for the 2:1 proportion shown in many of the sizes. This traditional Japanese proportion is pleasing to the eye and timeless. Available through the studio as a custom order item and on display in select sizes at big red sun. Toady i am excited to announce the release of the SOL outdoor dining set on display at Big Red Sun botanical studio and design center. This unique table and bench set is hand crafted with a robust powder coated steel frame topped with reclaimed and new Massaranduba Brazilian Redwood. The use of both aged and new material lends the unique coloration and texture of the table top.
